Photography/2-D Design

This course will introduce students to digital photography and basic photo editing/image manipulation techniques, and will give students the opportunity to use photography, along with other art media, to create designs and images that are not just interesting to look at, but can also convey a clear message to viewers. A brief history of photography and its recent trend away from film and towards digital will be discussed, along with units on the elements and principles of design and how to use them to plan, compose, take and edit successful photographs. Students will apply and demonstrate their knowledge and skill through classroom problem solving exercises, assignments and projects, written artist statements, and tests. Students will also be awarded points on organization, and participation in class and during critique sessions.
