Ceramics

This course is a basic study of ceramics. Students will explore the history of ceramics and be introduced to the basic methods of hand building. While hand built pottery will be emphasized, students will also have the chance to experience wheel thrown pottery, and will have the opportunity to develop this skill further, if desired. Glazing and firing procedures will be studied through examples, classroom activities, and studio experiences. The students will apply their knowledge through assignments, projects, tests, and written artist statements and will also be awarded points on organization, and participation in class and critique sessions.
